Why the increase in cancer incidence

Welcome folks to my blog site as I introduce my desire as a cancer biologist to explain the current knowledge about some of the factors that is driving the increase risk to cancer and how we can use this knowledge to help us avoid some of the preventable risk factors. Visit this site and let's discuss the preventable risk factors.........................................

  1. Excellent. I am eager to learn. I also have a few questions...

My biggest question deals more with the treatment than the prevention. Why is it that it seems that when people find out they have cancer, their descent seems to be accelerated? Is it Chemo (other treatments)? I always wonder could they have been living with the cancer for years? I look forward to learning more about the truth...

  2. It maybe the fear factor- some folks see cancer as a death sentence, accept it and prepare themselves to die, while others see it as any other battle: the outcome is a complex combination of faith or psychological well being, love, and sometimes genetic make up- your genes is important as it influences how well you respond to treatment etc etc. Of course the other issue is that for some folks, by the time the cancer is diagnose, it has alreay spread or metastasised in it's late and more aggressive stage, when the immune system is compromised, a lot of pain and other side effects all of which contribute to the percieved rapid decline-. as required by the FDA for every treatment, the benefits must outweigh the risks so even though there is toxicity associated with chemotherapy, it improves overall survival (even if for a few months) and/or quality of life- we are making significant progress in better treatment approaches but with all the unknowns, we must modulate our risk to getting cancer- this is what my book is all about..............
